Wonky Weaver Turkey Red dye is derived from the botanical, Rubia cardifolia (Indian Madder Roots). The dye powder can be used to produce red, purples and shades of dark pink. 
 
This Madder Dye Kit contains everything you need to get going with natural dyeing.  The kit includes:
 
50g Natural Madder Root Powder
25g Aluminium Acetate
25g Alum
25g Iron Sulphate
25g Copper Sulphate
25g Calcium Carbonate

It is always recommended to first wash and scour the fabric prior to dyeing, and when using cotton, you need to pre-mordant in a tannin bath before mordanting with ALUM, or use Aluminium acetate for better dyeing results. Also for animal fibres such as wool and silk, also scour, and mordant before dyeing. 
 
Suggested WOF is 30-100% depending on desired colour.

Using plant dyes is very enjoyable and satisfying but does require some degree of experimentation to get the desired coloration of your fibres, yarns and fabrics. Results also depend on the type, weight and make-up of the fibre, and water quality, temperature and length of time in the dye bath amongst many other factors. The type of mordants, dye assists and modifiers will also affect the resultant colour of your dyed materials, and therefore we do not guarantee the results of our natural dye products.
