A high whorl spindle (also known as a top whorl spindle) is suitable for spinning a fine to medium yarn. The whorl (which is the round weight which helps to make the spindle spin) on the spindle is attached to the top of the shaft and has a hook screwed into it which is used to secure the developing yarn. The yarn is then wound around the shaft. This spindle weighs just 80g.
