Llandovery Sheep Festival - 17-18th Sept 2022

This weekend 17th-18th September is the Llandovery sheep festival. This is a fun packed weekend centred in the historic Welsh drover's town of Llandovery on the very edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales.

This weekend is very special for the town, and brings to life and celebrates rural crafts, food, live entertainment, courses, guest presentations and much more. However, after all it is a Sheep festival so also celebrates the importance of sheep farming in Wales, the production of wool, yarns and how this is woven into useful garments, blankets, clothes and other items. At 10.45am on Saturday, Haydn from Wonky Weaver will be giving a presentation as guest speaker in the Castle Hotel on the Design and History of Welsh woven textiles. This presentation will lead the audience through the origin of designs, how the choice of yarns impact the woven structure, and the evolution of weaving technologies used to create Welsh products from the late 17th century to present day. We would love for you to come along to the presentation.

We will also have a small exhibition of Weaving products (our fleece to fabric initiative), looms and other items in the craft marquee. We will have a "try at weaving" for 50p a go which will also include an entry into our prize draw to win a woven goodie. Proceeds from this will be donated to the Llandovery Sheep Festival's Charity for 2022 which is the Welsh Air Ambulance.
